Clik here to view.I just saw an article advertising Visio's Co-Star Google TV Box. You can pre order it for $99.
But heck, what is it? It is a little black box and a remote control, and they say it turns your HDMI TV into a "Smart HDMI TV." That this little black box brings Google TV and Google Chrome applications right into your living room.
What does all this mean? What do you really get for $99? How does it work with my HDMI televsion and entertainment center? Does this Visio Co-Star Google TV box and remote come with batteries? How do you hook it up? What do you get from this thing that your regular cable television or that Apple Cable thingy don't give you? Let's take a look.
It appears there are two questions really. What is Google TV? How do you hook it up?
You can watch Netflix, HBO, and most of your cable television news! That's good! Unless I'm missing something, you can pretty much buy a few subscriptions, like Netflix and Hulu, and that will cost under $20 per month, lowering your average monthly cable bill by about $100. Not bad for a $99 investment. Netflix starts at just $7.99 per month. Hulu is $9.99 per month. It appears the two together, plus the free channels you can find turn your Google HDMI TV into a real alternative to the old fashioned cable service!
How do you hook the thing up? Do you just take this Google HDMI TV Box out of the box and turn it on? Yep! It looks like these Google TV Boxes are plug and play! Just take them out of the box, hook them up to your HDMI TVs, and you are ready to go! But it does look like your remote control will need batteries.
